Andy Wei Barristers

Want to become a Barrister?

Barristers are lawyers with specialist skills as independent advocates.

A barrister's job lets you make a clear difference for clients, and successfully arguing their cases could help them achieve the right outcome and avoid imprisonment.  No two days will be the same, and you’ll find there’s always a new challenge.

I am looking for an enthusiastic Junior to join my criminal law practice.

My barrister sole practice engages with defendants facing a range of serious criminal charges.

This role will give you a great opportunity to develop your criminal litigation skills through regular appearances in Courts around Auckland and interaction with prosecution agencies. You will also assist with client management and meetings, preparation of files, drafting submissions and legal research.

This role will involve a high level of trust in you to get on with the tasks assigned to you.  You must be ethical and responsible and have a strong desire to promote the interests of justice.

Applicants currently completing their professional legal studies or a newly admitted lawyer with experience, though not necessarily in criminal practice, is preferred.

The successful Applicant will need to have a genuine passion for criminal litigation and strong motivation to pursue a career as a criminal barrister.

This is not a standard 9-to-5 office job. Litigation is highly demanding and requires significant effort, commitment, and personal growth. If you are looking for a job where you can completely switch off at 5 pm and never think about your cases outside working hours, this is not the right role for you.

You will need to have:

  • document management skills;

  • time management skills,

  • ability to work under pressure;

  • multitasking abilities;

  • strong communication and advocacy skills;

  • strong written and legal research skills;

  • good people skills; and

  • ability to think on their feet.

Applicants may forward a copy of their Curriculum Vitae and academic transcript to Andy Wei – Barrister (andy@andywei.co.nz)
